the birds and the bees

When this ad image (originally posted in alsis35's Flickr stream) popped up on my Tumblr dashboard last week it immediately rang a bell with me.  I had seen this blouse--held it in my hands, in fact.  It was part of a huge vintage buy we made two summers ago.  At the time, I had no idea it was an Edith Head design.  Nor that it was purchased in 1956 for a mere $3.00 plus two Dial Soap wrappers!  (I love all the ways the ad suggests the blouse can be worn.)

Here are a couple of my photos of the blouse, which I sold on Etsy exactly two years ago yesterday!

An amazing print, I'm sure you'll agree!

  1. Now all I want is to own that blouse! As it turns out, I spyed something similar on Modcloth yesterday and have been thinking of getting it. I think this post is a sign that I must buy it.

    Thanks doll,

  2. Oh! My local vintage store had that blouse just a couple of weeks ago! Sadly, it's already sold.

  6. I love reading through old magazines, especially for the adverts. I've never found an exact match for something I have though! So excellent!

  9. Hey, thanks for checking out my photostream. Pretty cool seeing the blouse up close like this. (But I still wonder if any modern-day viewers have braved the movie that inspired it. Time for a trip to Rotten Tomatoes, I guess.) :)
