yellow!

I am loving yellow lately. I don't know why--maybe it's the slew of rainy, gray days we've had. I'm not normally a big sunshine person. I like gray and rain! But yellow is where it's at for me right now.

Here are a few lovely yellow items I've seen in my Etsy travels lately. Click the photo to go directly to the item on Etsy.

UPDATE: The yellow wedges are MINE. I couldn't help it!

Sunny yellow espadrilles from thriftage.

1960s Rise and Shine dress from 13bees. Love the buttons on the bodice and little bow at the shoulder!

Spring Fling collage print by catwalk, whose artwork I've been obsessed with lately.

Deadstock vintage bathing suit by CassiesAttic.

Snuggly vintage yellow cardigan from Lolavintage.

Mod mary janes from simplevintage.

And another lovely bodice on this 1950s dress from labangvintage.

michigan--land of riches, part 2

Yeah, yeah, I already made a post about the Michigan--Land of Riches exhibit. Well, here's another one, but it will be the last one, because the exhibit (housed in and showcasing the old Grand Rapids Public Museum) has closed. We went to the closing night party to give it one last look.

It was a lovely evening, and far more successful than Thursday night's outing to the new "1970s punk rock" bar, which serves bottled beer in paper bags. Yep.

I wore a thrifted vintage skirt, vintage sweater, Target belt, and shoes by Report.

Andy looked very sharp in his "new" vintage plaid shirt.

I was not able to verify this, but I want to believe that the big chunk of architecture here in front of the beaver is a piece of my dearly departed Schnitzelbank, (gone now because god knows what Grand Rapids needs is another stinking parking lot). I have no memory of such an architectural detail at the Schnitz--my brain is stuck in a memory haze of their amazing sauerbraten and spaetzel, and their special dark beer--but I took a photo, wanting to believe it was a chunk of the Schnitz.

The DJ, spinning over the museum entrance.

Ghostly fabric representation of the life-size whale that used to be suspended over the museum's main hall.

We met up with our friends Roberta and Mark; it was their first time seeing the exhibit.

I'm so glad we got to view it again. I really hope they'll be able to keep the space open somehow. I think it would be great for concerts, art exhibits, bazaars. It's nice to see something old in this city be revived, rather than bulldozed for a parking lot or TGI Fridays.

springtime delights

<span class=

I was so tickled when I ventured into the kitchen for my coffee this morning and saw the way Andy had arranged the asparagus left over from last night. It looks like it belongs in that blue Pyrex bowl.

It's Michigan asparagus, of course. And we ate some of it last night in this amazing asparagus and pancetta hash, from the Smitten Kitchen blog. I mean, Michigan asparagus, pancetta from Creswick Farms, some ramps foraged by Andy, potatoes, all topped off with a fried egg from a friend's hen--how can you go wrong?

Speaking of ramps...

<span class=

The bad thing about Michigan is spring comes late, and there are often freezes, so you have to be kind of patient waiting for local produce. The good thing is, once it arrives, there's lots of it. And in the meantime, you can always forage for fun things like morel mushrooms (not sighted in our neck of the woods so far this year, sadly), fiddlehead ferns, and ramps, which we just discovered this year. Andy went out yesterday and brought home the above giant bag of them. I wish you could smell their garlicky goodness.

So for tonight's dinner we're going to follow another Smitten Kitchen suggestion and sautee up a mess of ramps to eat on toast with some local cheese, Creswick bacon, and fried egg...with a side of more asparagus. (By the way, I didn't love love LOVE asparagus until I moved to Michigan and had it the way Andy prepares it: roasted with olive oil and tamari sauce, or olive oil and sea salt, until it's nice and caramelized. So good!)

Yum. I am ready for dinner! What are you having?
